September on the Mincio: things to visit around hu Altomincio village

September: we associate this month with the end of the summer and all too often we're not able to fully enjoy it. The Altomincio, located in a small fraction of Valeggio sul Mincio, is your ideal destination for walking, cycling and being in contact with nature allowing you to enjoy the typical September atmosphere. To better plan your holiday in September here are some events and places to visit.

Monzambano

Mozambano, a small town in the province of Mantua, is located on south of Lake Garda hills. It is very picturesque. Overlooking the river Mincio and being framed by the Castle walls, it creates that magical atmosphere typical of medieval villages. The evening hours is when it looks best. Visible from the road that connects Monzambano to the Altomincio Family Park, it can be easily visited on foot and is also suitable for children.

The points of interest of the city are the Castle and the Church of San Michele. The latter, characterised by an eighteenth-century façade, with references to the Baroque style and positioned in the centre of the city, truly is a building that is hard to ignore!

Furthermore, if by chance you find yourself here in the middle of the month, don't miss the Festa dell’Uva ("Grape Festival") held in September. This is a historical re-enactment in which the Castle streets come to life, thanks to the historical parades and the performances of jugglers and actors.

For more information visit the official site of the medieval re-enactment of Mozambano.

Borghetto

Considered one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, Borghetto rises in the valley of the Mincio river, at the foot of the Visconteo bridge. It dates back to the Lombard period and was the first ford of the Mincio River. To access this delightful village you have to cross the Visconteo bridge, from where you will have a beautiful view that also includes the Castle of Valeggio sul Mincio.

On Sundays, in this evocative setting, the Valeggiani Artists Group exhibits its works dedicated to the nature and landscape of the Moreniche hills surrounding Valeggio sul Mincio as well as the countryside of Lake Grada.

Valeggio sul Mincio

Of Lombard origin, Valeggio sul Mincio rises between two regions, Lombardy and Veneto. If you decide to visit Valeggio, don't miss the neoclassical Church of San Pietro in Cattedra and the Scaligero Castle. The latter is the symbolic fortress of the town, dating back to the Middle Ages, which dominates Valeggio and the entire Mincio valley.

And once you've arrived in Valeggio, don't miss the typical dish: tortellini pasta. And for those with a sweet tooth, there is also the chocolate variety! Only in September, the gastronomic event "Tortellini e dintorni" is organised, where you can taste many specialities.

Have you changed your mind about taking your holidays in September? We look forward to seeing you in September on the Mincio!
